Survey on Short-Term Rentals
16 I'm very concerned about the impact that short-term rentals have on our community. Properties 2/14/2025 7:56 PM
bought as STRs become investments, not a place to live and not a place for people who want
to support and be part of a community. STR landlords undermine our community's safety by
putting a rotation of people who are inexperienced with winter weather into some of the highest
snowfall areas in the world-conditions which require all of us to have the knowledge,
experience and energy to drive in snow, remove snow, and stay safe during extended power
outages. STR renters are not prepared for conditions in the Pass and are a burden on our
resources-there have been plenty of times when desperate pleas from renters have popped up
on local FB pages begging for food, help digging, help with houses without heat, help with
driving, help with rides, etc. Pass residents always help but what happens when they're
outnumbered by visitors? Finally, STRs make it difficult for local employees to find housing,
which causes interruptions to mountain operations, local restaurants, etc when employees
have long commutes and can't get to work in difficult weather.
17 The county infrastructure is being utilized by people using short term rentals. The county 2/13/2025 1:43 PM
should collect a tax to cover the increased maintenance costs of roads. Additionally, a fee or
tax would help address the increased pressure on recreation areas and it's resources. Folks
visiting the county should help cover the wear and tear on County resources. People are willing
to pay to play, so a recreation fee or tax would help the county establish funding to support
recreation endeavors, and projects within the county.
18 If you try to remove or reduce the short term rentals in this community, you will kill its 2/13/2025 9:56 AM
economy.
19 A problem here in Island Co. ,discourage it now. 2/13/2025 12:10 AM
20 Short term rentals add jobs, and keep our restaurants and services open. If our community 2/12/2025 9:23 PM
was self sustaining all the businesses on the main streets in Roslyn and Cle Elum would be
open seven days a week, but they are closed half the weekdays and always open on the
weekends to take advantage of their busy time because of out-of-town guests.
21 Snoqualmie pass residents need to stop complaining on this issue. If there are safety or noise 2/12/2025 8:55 PM
related issues, that is one thing, but simply complaining because they don't like change is
short sighted and exhausting. The bias against others outside the Pass is palpable, but it is a
reality that people visiting from outside the pass is what funds this community, the ski areas
included.
22 We have children and grandchildren who live in the house and never know who is next door is 2/12/2025 8:38 PM
disconcerting The freeway is literally 1 minute away. Any one of them could swoop a child up
and be gone. The disrespect is immense.
23 This community has an opportunity to grow as a tourist hotspot. We should support local 2/12/2025 8:13 PM
businesses and bring more people into this amazing community!
24 It's a safety concern when the power goes out and the pass is closed. I've had str's need to 2/12/2025 7:48 PM
charge phones on our generator.
25 Having STRs are an essential part of our community socially as well as financially but also an 2/12/2025 7:46 PM
important right of homeowners that have purchased second homes here should be able to rent
it out safely, and where it does not adversely impact neighbors
26 All of Kittitas county should have the same regulations, People that live in unincorporated 2/12/2025 5:00 PM
Kittitas have little protection. It is like living in a different state.
27 In Kittitas County, for example Cle Elum, Roslyn all have regulations in place for STR, where 2/12/2025 4:56 PM
Unincorporated Kittitas County (such as Ronald) is the wild wild west. No regulations, a free for
all. All of Kittitas County should have the same regulations.
28 The owners or property managers need to be much more available and attentive to their 2/12/2025 4:39 PM
renters. They should be in the neighborhood not miles away with no way to contact them
29 STR should be eliminated. Destructive to area and community and environment. Noise is 2/12/2025 2:19 PM
atrocious as is the constant partying, threats to property and environment. My husband and I
were physically threatened as well as had damage to our property by non locals. It's out of
control in the area
30 I've had short term rentals on and off in kittitas county for about 10 years. If the tenant was 2/12/2025 1:55 PM
vetted properly and expectations given, we've had almost no negative comments from the
neighbors. Poor management(required by one HOA) led to some negative comments from
64/87
