B. Shelter Rules
Basic shelter rules for the Cold Weather Shelter:
• Guests agree to sanitize their hands frequently, and to sanitize their belongings and other items
used while at the shelter in accordance with shelter policy. Sanitizer, wipes, and waste bins will
be provided at multiple locations in the shelter for this purpose.
• There is absolutely no violence, weapons, sex, drugs, alcohol, or disruptive behavior allowed.
There are no exceptions to this, and violators will be banned from the shelter.
• Check -in at the shelter is from 6:30-8:00 PM. All guests will be required to sign the roster upon
arrival. Late comers will be turned away. Law enforcement may bring people to the shelter
outside the check -in window
• Check-out is by 8:00 AM. All belongings and bedding must be cleaned and packed up by
8:OOAM. From 8:00-9:00 will be a resource hour, where guests can meet with service providers
or relax before heading out for the day. There will be no loitering on the premises after
resource hour.
• All guests must present their belongings for inspection when they arrive at the shelter. Only
personal necessities will be allowed to stay with guests. Check -in monitors will lock up all items
they deem unnecessary, unsafe, or inappropriate to leave in a guest's possession.
• Guests will be provided with a sleeping mat and sleeping bag for their use that night. Everyone
will be expected to wipe down their mat with disinfectant before leaving the following
morning. Sleeping bags will be kept in a tote with the name of the guest on it for repeated use
on consecutive nights. The bags will be cleaned weekly.
• After setting up their sleeping area guests may go to the food distribution area and get a meal
from staff or a volunteer. Only one meal per person will be allowed.
• Any guest who leaves the shelter area (except for smoking as outlined below) after checking in
will not be allowed to re-enter that night.
■ Smoking (including vaping) is allowed only in designated areas and never in the shelter building.
Cigarette butts must be put in the can provided. No smoking after 10:00 p.m.
■ Lights out is at 10:00 p.m. Guests may choose to retire earlier but must tolerate light and noise
in the building until everyone else retires for the night.
• Men and women will sleep in separate, designated areas.
Guests will arise in the morning by 7:00 a.m. and roll up their sleeping bags and mats. At this
time, they may go to the food distribution area and get a breakfast meal from staff or a
volunteer.
■ Mats and bags must be turned back in to a volunteer in exchange for the guest's personal
belongings that were stored.
• Please respect and honor the host's property. We are their guest. Each will be expected to do
their part in the morning general clean-up duties.
• Guests not abiding by these guidelines will be asked to leave for the night and may be barred
from using the shelter for a specified period. Persistent non-compliance will result in
permanent expulsion from the shelter.
• Each time a guest signs the roster when arriving at the shelter they agree to these guidelines.
