KITTITAS COUNTY <br /> DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br /> PUBLIC WORKS—BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br /> STUDY SESSION DATE: September 23,2024 <br /> TOPIC: No. 6 Road and Kittitas Hwy Intersection Study <br /> Update <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: Direction to Staff <br /> LEAD STAFF: <br /> Joshua Fredrickson <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Receive direction to schedule a Public Hearing to Receive an update to the Engineer's <br /> Report for the Intersection at No. 6 Road and Kittitas Hwy. <br /> BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br /> • A Public Hearing was held on February 6, 2024 on the background, fiscal <br /> impacts, and a speed study for Kittitas Highway and Number 6 Road. <br /> • The Board directed staff to continue to review and study the intersection and <br /> effects of the current traffic controls which had been put in place. <br /> • In October of 2023, LED advanced warning signs were installed on both Kittitas <br /> Hwy and No. 6 Road to warn drivers of the upcoming intersection. <br /> • In April of 2024, Public Works installed stop bars on No. 6 Road to help visually <br /> notice drivers of the stop condition on No. 6 Road. <br /> • In August of 2024, Public Works worked with adjacent property owners to <br /> remove vegetation to improve sight lines from the stop condition on No. 6 Road. <br /> • Traffic crash data has been updated and reviewed <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Public Works has conducted speed studies on both Kittitas Hwy and No. 6 Road and <br /> investigated crash data at the intersection of Kittitas Hwy and No. 6 Road. These results <br /> have been shared with the Board in previous Study Sessions and a Public Hearing which <br /> was held on February 6, 2024. At that Public Hearing, the Board heard the Engineer's <br /> report regarding a request to reduce speed limits on both Kittitas Highway and Number 6 <br /> Road as well as consideration for the implementation of an all-way stop at the <br /> intersection. The Board denied taking action and directed Public Works to monitor the <br /> roadway and intersection with the intent of holding another public hearing in September <br /> to discuss updates and any relevant information. <br />
