The feasibility study considered seven alternatives. One alternative was a no -build
scenario, where existing conditions remain the same. Three alternatives focused on use of
existing I-90 corridor and three alternatives considered new or widened roadways outside
of the I-90 corridor. Increasing the number of lanes will increase the ability of I-90 to
carry traffic. This will also increase the safety on I-90. The project considered a variety of
elements including safety, transportation demand, environment and public input to help
identify and score the alternatives to come to a final selection.
As part of the efforts to coordinate with a range of groups and stakeholders, the County
and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) partnered on the
efforts of the feasibility study. WSDOT stood up their M3 (Multimodal,
multidisciplinary, multi -agency) Team. They also sought input from their M2
(multimodal, multidisciplinary) Team.
Community and stakeholder involvement occurred throughout the development of the
feasibility study. Information was distributed through the STEER I-90 website and group.
Stakeholder interviews were done focused on current travel conditions. Public surveys,
virtual open house and an in -person open house were held to seek community feedback.
It is anticipated the report will be made available on the STEER I-90 website:
(httDs: //steeri90.com).
Kittitas County has employed the assistance of a consultant to engage with federal
legislators about the scope and importance of the project improvements along I-90.
Federal funding is being requested through the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS)
process for the next phase of the project which includes the environmental analysis and
preliminary design.
SCJ Alliance, as consultant awarded to develop the feasibility study, will be available to
present the feasibility study.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Full project costs are anticipated to be hundreds of millions of dollars.
ATTACHMENTS:
Exhibit 1: I-90 Corridor -Easton to Cle Elum Feasibility Study
