6 NEXT STEPS <br />This chapter outlines the steps necessary <br />to move the 1-90 Easton to Cie Elum <br />project forward from a feasibility study to <br />implementation. <br />6.1 Legislative Outreach <br />and Funding <br />Kittitas County (County) and consultants <br />have engaged with federal legislators to <br />inform them of the scope of the project, its <br />importance, and the region's need to improve <br />capacity issues along 1-90 in the study area. In <br />March 2024, a delegation met with Washington <br />State legislators in Washington, D.C. to begin <br />this process. <br />Additionally, a list of prospective federal <br />grants has been compiled to target facilitating <br />further design, environmental analysis, and <br />eventual implementation. The following U.S. <br />Department of Transportation grant and <br />funding opportunities are potentially available <br />for this project: <br />• Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage <br />Development (BUILD) Grant, Office of the <br />Secretary for Transportation Policy <br />• Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP), <br />Western Federal Lands Highway Division <br />• Infrastructure for Rebuilding America <br />(INFRA) Grants, Office of the Secretary for <br />Transportation Policy <br />• Nationally Significant Federal Lands and <br />Tribal Projects (NSFLTP) Program, Federal <br />Highway Administration <br />• Surface Transportation System <br />Funding Alternatives, Federal Highway <br />Administration <br />• Transportation Infrastructure Finance <br />and Innovation Act (TIFIA) Program, Build <br />America Bureau <br />• Transportation Infrastructure Finance <br />and Innovation Act (TIFIA): Rural Project <br />Initiative (RPI), Build America Bureau <br />The County will continue working closely <br />with the Washington State Department of <br />Transportation (WSDOT) to identify potential <br />state and/or federal funding opportunities to <br />help advance project planning and design. <br />Once funding is obtained, preliminary design <br />and environmental analyses will be initiated. <br />Current public engagement efforts will <br />continue and be expanded through the STEER <br />1-90 Coalition. <br />VOLUME I: FEASIBILITY REPORT 1-90 Corridor Easton to Cle Elum Feasibility Study 1 82 <br />
