KNIT
SCOPING DOCUMENTATION
Project Notes: The county plans on relocating to a new facility in approximately 10 years. New repairs
or products are to meet durability requirements needed to maintain the facility in good condition for
this duration at a minimum.
Construction Documents
The development of construction documents is based on the 90%pre-design package
developed under Task 1-Jail TI-Pre-Design.
JAIL
Exterior finish / coating repairs
A. Existing sanded exterior paint coating on existing concrete surfaces is failing.
The coating should be removed and refinished, after concrete panel cracking
repairs. New finishes may include new painted surfaces with high quality
concrete sealing products, EIFS or other panel system.
B. The existing exterior concrete panels are cracking in several locations and are
not limited to one area of the facility. Cracking occurs in spiderweb fashion
and horizontally at floor levels. In some instances, cracking can be seen on
both the exterior and interior surfaces. A structural evaluation will need to
occur to determine causes and repair solutions.
C. Remove existing vertical and horizontal expansion joints, including backer
rods. Replace joints with new backer rods and durable sealants.
D. Clean top of concrete wall caps at roof parapets. Install new treated wood
blocking and provide new sheet metal coping caps.
2. Interior repairs
A. The existing interior concrete panels are cracking in several locations and are
not limited to one area of the facility. Cracking occurs in spiderweb fashion
and horizontally at floor levels. In some instances, cracking can be seen on
both the exterior and interior surfaces. A structural evaluation will need to
occur to determine causes and repair solutions.
B. Remove existing vertical and horizontal expansion joints, including backer
rods. Replace joints with new backer rods and durable sealants.
3. Jail Public Entry Doors
A. The existing hollow metal double doors and side-lites are failing. Remove and
replace with identical secure system with ADA controllers. It's possible that
the sidewalls can be infilled with a wall system and replace the double doors
with a single 4'-0" wide secure hollow metal door and frame and ADA
controllers.
B. Remove interior vestibule doors and side-lites. Patch and repair walls and
ceilings.
C. Remove exterior steel railings and provide 1 to 3 concrete filled steel pipe
bollards in front of the jail entry doors to prohibit vehicle ramming of the
building.
4. Fire Sprinklers -Bid Alternate
A. Remove existing fire sprinkler system and replace.
B. Repair dry system as needed.
