KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />STUDY SESSION DATE <br />TOPIC: <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />LEAD STAFF: <br />Joshua Fredrickson <br />February 12, 2024 <br />Annual Bridge Inspection Report <br />Informational — No Board Action Required <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Informational Briefing — no Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) action is required. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />• Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 136-20-060 requires an annual bridge <br />inspection report. <br />• Bridge inspections are performed on a regular basis, typically every two years. <br />• 2023 bridge inspections were performed by Public Works staff and consultants <br />(KPFF). <br />• Bridge inspections include Cle Elum, Ellensburg and Kittitas. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Bridge inspection efforts made by the County are reported to the County Road <br />Administration Board (CRAB) as identified in Washington Administrative Code (WAC) <br />136-20-060. In addition to the bridge inspection effort the report includes <br />recommendations regarding replacement and repair and is utilized during the preparation <br />of the six -year transportation program. Inspections during 2023 were conducted using <br />consultant (KPFF) and Public Works Staff. Reporting to CRAB is due by the end of <br />March. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Kittitas County has responsibility for I I I bridges in the National Bridge Inventory <br />System (NBIS). Structures identified in the NBIS are eligible for federal funding. In <br />addition to the NBIS structures, there are 150 structures which do not meet the criteria to <br />be in the NBIS. Public Works inspects both NBIS and non-NBIS structures on a regular <br />basis, typically every two years. In addition to the inspections of County structures, <br />Public Works also performs inspections for the cities of Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and <br />Kittitas. <br />
