Proposal by: Topic: Meeting: Bryan Elliott, County Auditor Request Additional Office Space for Finance Staff December 12th, 2023 Summary: The Auditors Office Finance Staff currently consists of seven full time staff members and works out of the Auditors Office "backroom" plus a cubicle for the Budget and Finance Director. The Finance team has a diverse assortment of roles that require individual administrative tasks, small team planning, and customer facing interactions for both internal and external county stakeholders. While the current workspace is adequate it is not optimized to enable further specialization of our team as we move to a higher level of comprehensive financial analysis and long-range budget planning. Recommendation: The Finance staff needs additional space to allow our staff to better specialize within their respective roles. Currently, there are five offices vacant adjacent to the BOCC Auditorium. We propose to repurpose two of those vacant offices so that several members of our staff to include the Budget and Finance Director, can move into that space. This will allow for: • Better concentration on individual budget planning and analysis in addition to a place for small teams to gather and discuss topics as needed. • Redesigning the current Auditors Office backroom to give more space to the staff that remain over here and optimizing the space for improved internal/external customer interactions. • Capacity for the finance team to grow. There are no current plans for Auditors staff to increase in the short term, but we know that the county is always looking for organizational efficiencies and we would be well positioned to welcome new team members (if needed in the future) or expand other opportunities such as internships.
