KITTITAS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT STUDY SESSION DATE: October 9, 2023 TOPIC: 2023 Annual Report for the 2019 Kittitas County Hazard Mitigation Plan ACTION REQUESTED: Issue press release LEAD STAFF: Arden Thomas RECOMMENDATION: Issue a press release informing citizens about our progress implementing the 2019 Kittitas County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. BRIEFING SUMMARY: • In 2019, Kittitas County adopted the 2019 Kittitas County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (Resolution No. 2019-140). • Since Kittitas County participates in the Community Rating System, we are required to have an up-to-date Hazard Mitigation Plan and annually report on our progress implementing the plan. BACKGROUND: In 2019, Kittitas County adopted the 2019 YOttitas County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (Resolution No. 2019-140). Communities that would like to participate in the Community Rating System (CRS) or apply for hazard mitigation grants are required to have an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Community Rating System (CRS) is a program offered by the National Flood Insurance Program which rewards communities that implement certain flood management activities with lower flood insurance rates for their residents. CRS communities are required to report annually on their progress implementing the Hazard Mitigation Plan. Kittitas County staff have prepared a progress report for the County -Wide and Kittitas County mitigation initiatives. DISCUSSION: This year Kittitas County has initiated etforts to update our Hazard Mitigation Plan before it expires on September 15, 2024.
