PROJECT SITE
The preferred site for the new facility has been
selected property to the south of the airport. This
location has opportunity for continued development,
expansion for the growing needs, and access for
both Upper and Lower County citizens.
Thorough investigation of the existing downtown site
was done in tandem to the Airport site. Downtown
infrastructure is highly desirable and access for all
people within the city of Ellensburg. The available
resources in Downtown Ellensburg is a benefit to the
operations of the court. However, the available land
at the existing location is highly limited for growth
and development as the needs for the courthouse
grows. The existing facility is highly restrictive
for growth and is currently highly undersized. The
6 DDLRGROUP
existing conditions were not physically assessed
by DLR Group as part of the scope of work, but
were described as end of useful life for the required
systems throughout all County buildings.
To build the required needs for the County
Downtown, a parking garage would be required in the
preliminary phases of construction in the Downtown
core.
Additionally, the adjacency of the jail to the
courthouse imposed significant construction
security concerns during the redevelopment of the
courthouse. By constructing in a new location, the
courthouse and government departments can stay
fully operational until the campus is completed and
available for moving in.
