Special Event Application information for Manastash Ridge trail running and navigation event
weekend, taking place in Manastash Ridge portion of Wenas State Wildlife Area
luneS-4,2O23
About the Organizer
Meridian Geographics, LLC (doing business as MerGeo, Northwest Trail Runs, and Northwest Navigation
Races) is a Seattle-based company that produces outdoors events in the trail running and land navigation
areas and offers map and compass education to children and adults. MerGeo was founded in 2004, and
in recent years has put on about 50 events per year, ranging from 4-kilometer trail runs in urban parks to
SO-kilometer ultra runs and 24-hour navigation races over large areas ofrugged terrain.
Onsite Contacts
Eric Bone, owner and course designer, 206-291,-8250
M icha e I Havrda, Vo I u ntee r Coord i nato r, 425-269-8442
Angela Cline, Event Director; 910-548-4943
Description of Use
This event includes a trail run on Saturday, June 3, and a navigation event on Sunday, June 4. The trail run
will offer a choice of four distances, 5km, 7 miles, half marathon (13 miles), and 50km (31 miles), and we
expect approximately 150 participants to attend. The navigation event will offer two time limits, 3 hours
and 6 hours, and participants will travel on foot individually or in teams of 2-5 people to visit as many
checkpoints as they can within their chosen time limit. We expect approximately 35 participants to take
part in the navigation event. Trail run routes will be clearly marked with flags, ,ribbons, and cones;
navigation checkpoints will be marked with orange and white flags. All markings will be removed
immediately following the event, and any trash will be picked up by MerGeo staff and deposited at the
Ellensburg Transfer Station. Participants will adhere to leave-no-trace practices.
Safetv and First Aid
We have a clearly marked first aid station. Our standard safety procedures include tracking the
whereabouts of all runners while they are on-course, as well as implementing search and first aid
procedures in case of a runner that is thought likely to be lost or injured. We will notify emergency first
responders of the event in the week leading up to the event. ln the very rare event of a medical
emergency at one of our events, we call emergency first responders and coordinate teams on the ground
to render first aid to and/or evacuate (when appropriate) the sick or injured individual and to guide the
first responders to the location of the person in distress as soon as possible.
