KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />PUBLIC WORKS — BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />STUDY SESSION DATE: September 12, 2022 <br />TOPIC: Draft Six -Year Transportation Improvement <br />Plan (2023-2028) <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Direct staff schedule a public hearing to consider <br />adoption of the Six -Year Transportation <br />Improvement Plan for 2023-2028 <br />LEAD STAFF: <br />Joshua Fredrickson <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Direct staff schedule a public hearing to consider adoption of the six-year Transportation <br />Improvement Plan for 2023-2028. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />• Public Works updates the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) each year to <br />address transportation needs within projected funding amounts <br />• Each year Public Works solicits county residents for comment regarding the <br />annual Transportation Improvement Plan <br />• Annual plan consists of a listing of proposed improvement projects in the <br />upcoming budget year (2023) and the subsequent five -years (2024-2028) <br />• Most projects are carried forward from previous year with additional projects <br />based on grant funding received <br />• Funding sources include Road Fund and grant sources <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Public Works annually produces a six-year transportation plan for road fund investing. <br />The current plan identifies projects in 2023-2028. A draft update has been prepared <br />which includes projects listed from last year's plan and additional projects based on grant <br />funding received. Major projects for the next five years include: roadway improvements <br />to Hungry Junction Road, bridge replacement on Liberty Road, Faust Road and Cooke <br />Canyon Road. Prior to adoption Public Works conducts public outreach efforts to collect <br />citizen input on proposed transportation improvement projects. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Public Works has updated the annual six-year transportation improvement plan. This plan <br />uses data collected throughout the year to identify transportation needs. Data collected <br />includes road rating, bridge reports and traffic information.
