AGENDA DATE:
KITTITAS COUNTY
AIRPORT DEPARTMENT
Study Session 5/9/2022
5/9/2022
STUDY SESSION
ACTION REQUESTED: REQUESTING APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION
DEMONSTRATING THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SUPPORT FOR
AIRPORT AID APPLICATION TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION AND
THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AVIATION
DIVISION FOR BOWERS FIELD AND AUTHORIZING THE AIRPORT DIRECTOR TO
EXECUTE THE AIRPORT AID APPLICATIONS
LEAD STAFF: Ken Grannan, Airport Director
BACKGROUND: Annually WSDOT Aviation provides opportunity for
airport sponsors to apply for Airport Aid Grants for
existing FAA AIP projects. These grants are generally
used to assist sponsors with the 10% required matching
funds for most federal AIP grants. This is the annual
request for the WSDOT Aviation Grant funds.
DISCUSSION: This year we are finalizing our (EA) Environmental
Assessment with the FAA and will be moving on to the
wetland mitigation design and construction portion upon
approval from the FAA. With the deadlines fast
approaching on the WSDOT Grant and the EA
determination, we have decided to submit our application
for the mitigation design portion of the project.
The Wetland and Stream Mitigation Design Project is needed to
address federal environmental (NEPA) requirements associated
with upcoming Airport Improvement Projects at Bowers Field
Airport. The project will provide for the design and assembly of
bidding documents. Construction will occur as part of a
subsequent project. FAA is expected to reimburse the County for
90% of the project cost. The County is in the process of applying
for a WSDOT grant application to fund 5% of the total project
cost. The project cost is expected to be $200,000, and so the
WSDOT grant would be for $10,000.
INTERACTION: BoCC, Staff, Century West
STAFF
