A particular strength of <br />BehavePlus is the ability to display the influence of inputs on calculated fire behavior <br />(such as the effect of increasing wind speed on rate of spread). Ranges of values are en- <br />tered to produce tables and graphs. Rarely should a user only enter a single value for each <br />input variable and accept the results. You will most often enter multiple values for input <br />variables before settling on selections. <br />There are no traditional data files for BehavePlus. Data are entered into a worksheet inter- <br />actively by the user. Once data have been entered in BehavePlus, however, the worksheet <br />can be saved as a run. Fuel parameter values can be saved as a custom fuel model (Sec- <br />tion 10.1), and surface fuel moisture values can be saved as a custom moisture scenario <br />(Section 11.1). <br />Input variables are categorized as either continuous or discrete. Continuous variables are <br />assigned numerical values. Any value in the valid range can be entered. For example, <br />dead fuel moisture percentage can have a value of 4, 4.5, or 5. Discrete variables, on the <br />other hand, can have only specific values or codes. For example, a fuel model can be en- <br />tered as 4, 5, or GR2, but 4.5 is not a valid fuel model code. A table in the Variables paper <br />(Andrews 2009) describes which variables are discrete and which are continuous, but Be- <br />havePlus handles the input options for each variable type appropriately and will provide a <br />warning if inputs are entered incorrectly. <br />In all cases, values can be directly typed into the worksheet. Alternatively, a click on the <br />Guide button associated with each input variable offers a list of valid values for discrete <br />variables. The Guide button gives a means of entering one, two, or a range of values for <br />continuous variables.
