Fort Collins, CO: U.S. Department of <br />Agriculture, Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station. 111 p. <br />Abstract <br />The BehavePlus fire modeling system � a computer program that is based on mathematical mod- <br />els that describe wildland fire behavior and effects and the fire environment. It is a flexible system <br />that produces tables, graphs, and simple diagrams. It can be used for a host of fire management <br />applications, including projecting the behavior of an ongoing fire, planning prescribed fire, assess- <br />ing fuel hazard, and training. This report documents the BehavePlus design and features to help <br />users better understand the system and use it more effectively. It is based in part on material in a <br />series of self -study lessons that were developed to provide a detailed, step-by-step description of <br />various aspects of BehavePlus. This report supplements two reference guides on BehavePlus: a <br />User's Guide describes operation of the program and can be accessed at http:/Avww.fs.fed.us/rm/ <br />pubs/rmrsytr106.html, and a Variables paper describes the more than 180 variables in Behave - <br />Plus and can be accessed at hftp:l/www.fs.fed.us/rm/pubs/rmrs_gtr2l3.htm1. <br />Authors <br />Faith Ann iHeinsch is a Post -Doctoral Research Ecologist with the Fire, Fuel, and Smoke Science <br />Program at the Fire Sciences Laboratory in Missoula, Montana. From 2002 to 2008r she worked at the <br />University of Montana with NTSG in the College of Forestry and Conservation, where she analyzed <br />vegetation productivity in response to current changes in climate and collaborated on climate change <br />research, education, and outreach. Her research focus is on fire behavior prediction and fire danger rating. <br />Patricia L. Andrews is a Research Physical Scientist with the Fire, Fuel, and Smoke Science Program <br />at the Fire Sciences Laboratory in Missoula, Montana. She has been at the Fire Lab since 1973, <br />serving as Project Leader of the Fire Behavior Research Work Unit from 1991 to 1996. Her research <br />focus is fire behavior prediction and fire danger rating. <br />Acknowledgments <br />Coding of BehavePlus was done by Collin D.
