14.2 Slope versus Horizontal Map Distance <br />Map distance is found by multiplying slope distance by the map scale. This is not techni- <br />cally correct, but because of the many variables that exist in the real world, the difference <br />between slope distance and horizontal distance is not critical. The Slope vs horizontal <br />map distance tool (Figure 66) is provided to make a conversion of slope map distance <br />to horizontal map distance in case you want to make the correction before you plot a dis- <br />tance on a map. Because BehavePlus builds a worksheet that requests only required input values, <br />you can build a simple slope calculation worksheet by selecting only the above input op- <br />tion and slope output variables (Figure 67).
