99.2 Selecting Moisture Scenarios <br />As with fuel models, custom moisture scenarios are available during the session in which <br />they were created. In future sessions, you must attach the folder in which they reside. It is <br />not possible to select and attach individual moisture scenario files; the entire folder must <br />be attached. <br />Moisture scenarios are useful when developing custom fuel models. That option is se- <br />lected for the FuelModeling.bpw and FuelModelingMetric.bpw worksheets. <br />12 Table Shading for Acceptable Fire Conditions <br />A primary use of the BehavePlus option of Table shading for acceptable fire conditions <br />is for prescribed fire planning. Acceptable conditions (such as 2- to 8 -ft flame length) can <br />be specified; unacceptable conditions are then "shaded" on output tables. (They are actu- <br />ally crossed off or left blank.) In this way, conditions such as wind speed and dead fuel <br />moisture that result in acceptable conditions can be identified. <br />The approach used in BehavePlus is different from that in the RXWINDOW program <br />of the old BEHAVE system (Andrews and Bradshaw 1990). RXWINDOW reversed the <br />calculations to determine environmental conditions that corresponded to specified fire <br />conditions. That approach is not feasible given the additional fire models (such as crown <br />fire) that are available in BehavePlus. <br />To add acceptable fire conditions to your worksheet, check the box next to Table shading <br />for acceptable fire conditions in the Module Selection window (Figure 1). Output vari- <br />ables available for table shading are given in a table in the BehavePlus Variables paper <br />(Andrews 2009). <br />The added section of the worksheet lists output variables that allow input fields for mini- <br />mum and maximum acceptable values (Figure 64). Entered values only affect results if <br />the associated box is checked. If acceptable conditions are specified for flame length, val- <br />ues outside of that range on the flame length output table are crossed off. Associated table <br />entries are also crossed off on any other table that is produced (in this example, surface <br />rate of spread and reaction intensity). <br />It is a good practice to first show the values that are crossed out (unacceptable values) so <br />that you see what is happening. Once you create the table that you want, you can produce <br />a nicely formatted table with blank cells using Configure > Appearance preferences > <br />Tables, checking the box next to Show only acceptable conditions when table shading, <br />and recalculating the run. <br />76 USDA Forest Service Gen.
