File > Export results was used to save the table results in HTML format. The HTML
file was opened with the spreadsheet program and saved as a spreadsheet file. The table
output (a section of the complete HTML file) was then copied to another worksheet, and
surface rate of spread and flame length were plotted on the same graph with the rate of
spread axis on the left and the flame length axis on the right. A dashed line was added to
show the initial fuel loading value (Figure 54).
i
1
2
A
1-#
Load
6
ROS
(max)
C
Rama
Lan0h
D
E F - G T H I J
K
FuelMrdal2
3
toNac
ttdh
tt
1-h load - 2 tonfac
405
222
36
5 '
1
36.9
53
q`
5urfece PO5 (max:, chJh -Flame LenpEh, R
6
15
477
6-?
is
7
2
56B
79
 60
` 70
_-
12
8
9.
-
10:
25
3
3-5
61.8
56.5
70.1
E.9
$.8
30.5
6D
■
i
i0
s"
34
4
73
11.2
_111
12
4.5
T5.3
lie
6
13'
14
5
±T2
123
30
20
t
g
15
N 1a
1
x
1;
I
1'
0
2 3 4 5
5
_20
1-h Fuel Load, tonlac
i
Figure 54 -With a spreadsheet program, multiple variables can be plotted on the same graph.
The inputs that create these data came from Figure 53a.
A spreadsheet can also be used to perform additional calculations. For this example, we
calculate the ratio of surface rate of spread to flame length (Figure 55). This calculation
was suggested for custom fuel model development by Burgan and Rothermel (1984) to
deal with the common problem of generating approximately the right spread rate but having
the flame length too low or vice versa. The plot shows whether spread rate will increase
faster than flame length (rising curve) or slower (decreasing curve) as the value of the se-
lected parameter changes. (We converted the surface rate of spread from ch/h to ft/min in
the spreadsheet although the unit conversion could have been done in BehavePlus before
export.)
a A B C G E F G H I K t M
1 1-h ROS ROS Flame ROS f FL
2 ln;r1 llw1x) t1wv'.
