The primary focus of the Sntall Business Development Center (SBDC) program is business
<br />development educalion through individual and small group advising.
<br />The Business Advisor acts as a coach or nrentor, assisling clients in developing or inrproving their
<br />business management skills !n order to effectively nranage the operations of their business. ln the
<br />process, lhe Business Advisor mainlains strrct confidentiality of all client information and follows
<br />conflict of inleresl policies of the SBDC program.
<br />ln addition to the instruction/advising componen{ of lhe posiiion, the Business Advisor performs
<br />significant outreach activilies to engage the community through regutar contact with Chsmbers of
<br />Conrmerce, Economic Development Councils, service clubs and community organizations and
<br />legislators in conjunclion with the Lead Of{ice slaff .
<br />The SBDC is a network of enlrepreneurially minded prolessional business advisors rvith significanl
<br />experience in small business who enjoy the intrinsic value ot helping business owners/nranagers
<br />developing or improving lheir business knowledge and skills to effectively manage ihe operations of
<br />tlreir business. ln confideniial, one-on-one relationships, we educate, nrenlor and advise clienls in all
<br />aleas of grow,ng a business. The Business Advisor also must adhere lo the code of professional
<br />conduct and conflict of interest policies of the SBDC program. Most advisors work independently in a
<br />community-located SBDC cenler, yel frequently collaborate wilh advisors across the state who requesl
<br />assistance on behalf o{ a client with need for specific expertise.
<br />Advisors musl be well organized to manage more tlran g0 clients annually. Business clients will be
<br />fronr every, seclor of the local business comnrunity and require a full range of business services.
