December 29, 2016 | Page 3 File No. 0504-119-00
bgs. A temporary well screen was set between 6½ and 8½ feet bgs, and a groundwater sample was
collected.
■ Soil boring B-4 was drilled approximately 25 feet northwest of the former UST excavation. B-4 was
advanced to a depth of 8½ feet bgs before meeting refusal, and soil samples collected at the 3- and
6-foot-depth intervals for potential chemical analysis. Groundwater was not encountered.
■ Soil boring B-5 was drilled approximately 10 feet northeast of the former UST excavation. B-5 was
advanced to a depth of 9 feet bgs before meeting refusal. Soil samples were collected at the
1½-, 4½- and 8-foot-depth intervals for potential chemical analysis. Groundwater was encountered at
about 7½ feet bgs. A temporary well screen was set between 7 and 9 feet bgs, and a groundwater
sample was collected.
■ Soil boring B-6 was drilled approximately 20 feet east of the former UST excavation. B-6 was advanced
to a depth of 9½ feet bgs before meeting refusal. Soil samples were collected at the 3-, 6- and
8-foot-depth intervals for potential chemical analysis. Groundwater was not encountered.
■ Soil boring B-7 was drilled approximately 20 feet northwest of the former UST excavation. B-7 was
advanced to a depth of 8 feet bgs before meeting refusal. Soil samples were collected at the 2- and
6-foot-depth intervals for potential chemical analysis. Groundwater was not encountered.
Environmental West backfilled each boring with bentonite. Excess soil cuttings and temporary well purge
water were removed and disposed by Environmental West. Boring logs associated with the borings are
included in Appendix A.
4.2. Subsurface Conditions
Observed soil conditions varied within the borings with clay with sand, silty sand, silty gravel, fine to coarse
gravel with silt, clay with gravel, and silt with sand encountered. In general, coarse material (sand and
gravel) was present in most borings to depths between 2 and 5 feet bgs and underlain by fine materials
(clay and silt) to the depths explored. Groundwater was encountered in four borings between 4½ and 8 feet
bgs.
4.3. Field Screening and Sampling
Soil samples from each boring were field-screened for the potential presence of petroleum contamination
by PID, visual examination and water-sheen testing. PID headspace vapor readings were measured above
1 part per million (ppm) in borings B-1, B-2 and B-5. Contaminated soil field screening indicators were also
observed in collected soil samples from borings B-1, B-2 and B-5. A slight to moderate sheen was noted,
as well as, a slight petroleum odor. Field screening procedures are further described in Appendix A.
One soil sample per slip-sleeve sampler was collected in laboratory-supplied containers for chemical
analysis. Soil and groundwater sampling procedures also are described in Appendix A.
5.0 CHEMICAL ANALYTICAL RESULTS
5.1. Soil Chemical Analytical Results
Seven soil samples were submitted to TestAmerica for the chemical analyses described in “Section 3.0
Scope of Services.” Submitted samples from the seven borings were collected between 4 and 8 feet bgs.
