Moving traffic to the downtown
was a challenge. ln the last two years Cle Elum has changed as new retail,
restaurants, and our master plan which rncludes a facelift in the downtown have
started. ln addition, with the work of the Cle Elum Downtown Association in creating
new events, working collaboratively to expand events, and successfully building
partnerships to comarket Cle Elurn. there has been a shift in how tourists see and
experience our downtown community. Cle Elurn has regained popularity and is now
seen as a destination.
Another facior that has helped Cle Elum build a rnore vibrant atrnosphere is that
there are new entrepreneurial businesses featuring local artisans and crafters who
have begun emergirrg arrd are seeking business locations to sell arrd share their
work. We began experiencing this growth this past summer with many new vendors
at the Cle Elum Public Markets we held this past summer.
Our goal is to encourage new businesses. increase creative ouilets. and offer events
that attract tourism to our community in Cle Elum. This encouragement will build on
the pride and excitement our business community is experiencing. Until recently,
most business owners would send tourists to Roslyn or Suncadia to add to their
experience. With the growth of new businesses and restored buildings, business
owners are now encouraging tourists to other downtown locations to.
Building on the growing popularity of our community and the new opportunities to
explore in our downtown. we feel confident that these new events. centered around
arts and crealive opportunities, will be inviting and encourage more tourism and
visits to Cle Elunr, strengthening our identiiy as a destination.
2500 character limit
