Chapter 17A.02 <br />DEFINITIONS <br />174.02.010 Generallv. <br />Certain terms and words used in this title are defined in the followinq sections. Words used in the <br />present tense include the future; words in the sinqular number include the plural number: and words <br />in the plural number include the sinqular number. The word "shall" is mandatorv. <br />17A.02.020 Adiacent. <br />"Adiacent" to a critical area means the project area is located: <br />1. anvwhere within the standard critical area buffer and/or standard building setback: <br />2. anvwhere within three hundred (300) feet from a fish and wildlife habitat conservation area <br />or wetland; or <br />3. anywhere within two hundred (200) feet from a critical aquifer recharqe area. <br />174.02.030 AqriculturalActivities. <br />"Aqricultural activities" means aqricultural uses and practices includinq. but not limited to: Producinq, <br />breedinq, or increasinq aoricultural products: rotatinq and chanqino aqricultural crops: allowinq land <br />used for aqricultural activities to lie dormant: allowing land used for aqricultural activities to lie <br />dormant as a result of adverse aqricultural market conditions: allowinq land used for aqricultural <br />activities to lie dormant because the land is enrolled in a local. state, or federal conservation <br />proqram, or the land is subiect to a conservation easement: maintaining. repairing. and replacinq <br />agricultural equipment: maintaining. repairino, and replacing agricultural facilities. provided that the <br />replacement facility is no closer to the shoreline and/or critical area than the orioinal facility: and <br />maintaininq agricultural lands under production or cultivation. <br />174.02.040 AqriculturalActivities. Hioh lntensitv. <br />"Hiqh intensitv aqricultural activities" are defined as: dairies. animal feed lots, nurseries. <br />qreenhouses. and like uses which are commerciallv operated. <br />17A.02.050 AqriculturalLand. <br />"Aoricultural land" means land orimarilv devoted to the commercial oroduction of horticultural. <br />viticultural. floricultural. dairv. apiarv. veqetable. or animal products or of berries. qrain, hav. straw, <br />turf, seed. Christmas trees not subject to the excise tax imposed by *RCW 84.33.100 throuqh <br />84.33.140. finfish in upland hatcheries. or livestock. and that has lonq-term commercial siqnificance <br />for agricultural production. <br />17A.02.060 AlluvialFan. <br />"Alluvial fan" or "Alluvial fan hazard area" means a low. outspread. relatively flat-to- qentle slopino <br />landscape surface composed of eroded alluvial materials deposited by a stream at the transitional <br />area between vallev floodplains and steep mountain slopes. Channel pattern in the alluvial fan is <br />highlv variable. often dependent on substrate size and age of the landform. Channels may change <br />course frequently, resultinq in a multi-branched stream network. Channels can also be deeplv <br />incisecl wilhin h iohlv e rodible al Irrvial material <br />174.02.070 Alteration. <br />"Alteration" means any human induced chanoe in an existinq condition of a critical area or its buffer. <br />Alteration includes. but is not limited to. qradinq. fillinq. channelizinq dredqino, clearinq (veqetation). <br />construction. compaction. excavation, or anv other activity that chanqes the character of the critical <br />area- <br />19
