On October 11, 2021, Kittitas County Public Works staff briefed the Kittitas County
Board of Commissioners on progress implementing the Hazard Mitigation Plan,
focusing on the recent reports we received. This information was presented at the
Public Works Study session, a public meeting. The 2021 report has been posted to
the Kittitas County's website and a press release was issued notifying the public
about its availability.
3. Provide a description of the implementation of each recommendation or action item
in the action plan or area analysis report, including a statement on how the project
was implemented or not implemented during the previous year.
Please see the attached report, which provides the description for each of the
County -Wide and unincorporated Kittitas County Mitigation Initiatives.
4. Discuss why any objectives were not reached or why implementation is behind
schedule:
Several important activities, such as the purchase of flood -prone property and the
deployment of real-time stream gages to support a flood warning system, were
accomplished in the reporting period. Additionally, reporting annexes indicated that
they have had success implementing initiatives identified in this plan. While there
has been success implementing the plan, Flood Control Zone District (FCZD)
staffing capacity is a limitation for advancing some flood -specific projects identified
within the plan. The FCZD is planning on supplemental staff support in 2021.
During the October 112021, study session, Commissioner Wright noted that there
had been no progress implementing Initiative KC -31, which is to enhance the
existing dam failure early warning system and requested that staff investigate
potential actions to address this activity.
5. What are the recommendations for new projects or revised recommendations?
There are no recommendations for new projects or revised recommendations at this
time.
