Fire District #51, Snoqualmie Pass Utility District, Cle Elum-Roslyn School District, and
Kittitas County Conservation District all provided updates for inclusion in the annual
report.
DISCUSSION:
In 2021, Kittitas County Fire District #51, Snoqualmie Pass Utility District, Cle Elum-
Roslyn School District, the Kittitas County Conservation District and Kittitas County all
implemented many important measures to reduce risk to environmental hazards. Among
the highlights, Kittitas County initiated its stream gaging program and purchased 226
acres of flood -prone property, removing two current residences and 25 potential
residences from the floodplain. Kittitas County Fire District No. 51 is upgrading its
communication system, which will enable it to better coordinate with regional
jurisdictions. This upgrade that will serve both counties in which the fire district is
located. The Snoqualmie Pass Utility District has started construction of phase 1
wastewater treatment facility improvements, which will increase the resiliency of the
wastewater treatment system to the impacts of natural hazards. This utility district is also
planning a third reservoir at Summit West, which will increase fire flow storage across
the Snoqualmie Pass Utility District. The Cle-Elum Roslyn School District partnered with
the Washington State Department of Natural Resources to deploy Firewise techniques
around the school campus. The Kittitas County Conservation District conducted 22.8
acres of fuels reduction treatments with 8 landowners in priority areas. The Conservation
district also partnered with Fire District 7 on a chipping program 2021 that served 40
landowners.
The current annual report timeline is driven by Community Rating Service reporting
requirements. The late fall reporting period is a difficult time for reporting participation.
Starting in 2022, Kittitas County will shift to calendar -year reporting, and solicit updates
in February. We hope this change will support greater participation by our planning
partners.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Hazard Mitigation Plan annual reporting and specific Flood Control Zone District project
funding is included in the Flood Control Zone District annual budget.
ATTACHMENTS:
Exhibit 1: Hazard Mitigation Plan Report
Exhibit 2: Press Release
PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
