• Respond to Public Work-related inquiries from the public as needed. <br />• Assist Public Works staff with field, administrative, and department -wide operations. <br />This job description is a summary of the primary functions and expectations for this position. Additional <br />department- related duties may be assigned as required. <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: <br />• High School Diploma or GED AND two (2) years of related technical or college training in Engineering, <br />Geology, Water Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field. <br />• Two (2) years of related work experience involving duties such as collecting hydrologic or geological data, <br />managing datasets, utilizing GIS to organize, query, and map spatial data. <br />• Additional experience may be considered in lieu of some education. <br />• A four (4) year degree may be considered in lieu of some experience. <br />• Valid Washington State driver's license. <br />• A criminal history and background check will be performed on qualified candidates. Convictions may <br />preclude candidates from employment in certain circumstances. Factors such as relativity to the position, <br />age and time of the offense, seriousness and nature of the violation, and rehabilitation will be taken into <br />account. <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: <br />• Strong interpersonal and problem -solving skills. <br />• Effective verbal and written communication skills. <br />• Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and GIS applications, and ability to quickly learn <br />other programs specific to the department and/or County. <br />• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, contractors, regulatory agencies, etc. <br />in a professional manner. <br />• Ability to read, revise and interpret complex documents, policies and procedures. <br />• Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex subjects to audiences <br />with varying levels of knowledge and understanding of the program. <br />Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain field and office data, reports and systems. <br />Ability to work independently and cooperate and work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, other <br />agencies, and the public in individual and group settings. <br />PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: <br />• Knowledge of Washington water law and related issues. <br />• Knowledge of floodplain and stormwater management regulations. <br />• Experiencing identifying drainage and flooding issues <br />• Knowledge of local land use authorities. <br />• Experience in public speaking. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Work is typically performed in an office environment, but could include others such as outdoors, site visits, vehicles, <br />public meeting locations, and private residences. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, crouch, kneel, stoop and grasp. <br />Must be able to traverse a variety of surfaces and ascend/descend stairs. Must be able to read printed <br />materials and a computer screen; must possess hearing and speech to communicate clearly in person or over <br />the telephone. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds; potentially more with assistance. All safety regulations, <br />policies, and procedures must be adhered to at all times, including use of PPE. <br />Occasional travel may be required for training opportunities and /or meetings; must be able to safely operate a <br />motor vehicle in all weather conditions and levels of daylight.
