Kittitas County Shoreline Master Program <br />safe, convenient, economic, and diversified movement of people, goods, and <br />services, with minimum disruption to the shoreline area and environment. <br />B. Obiectives <br />1. Locate and design new circulation systems for alternative modes of transportation <br />where the natural landscape can be preserved, ecological function maintained, and <br />land use conflicts minimized. <br />2. Locate, design, develop, manage, and maintain transportation systems in a manner <br />that protects shoreline ecologicalfunctions and processes. Minimize and mitigate <br />unavoidable impacts. <br />3. Encourage the use of waterborne transportation for recreational uses <br />4. Locate new road corridors for motorized vehicles outside of shoreline jurisdiction <br />unless there is no reasonably feasible location. <br />3.7 Historical/cultural element <br />A. Goal <br />1. ldentify, protect, preserve and restore sites that contain resources of cultural, <br />archaeological, historic, educational, or scientific value or significance. <br />B. Obiectives <br />1. Protect cultural, archaeological, and historic resources in collaboration with <br />appropriate tribal, state, federal, and local governments. <br />2. Engage in and encourage cooperation between public agencies and private parties <br />in the identification, protection, and management of cultural, archaeological, and <br />historic resources. <br />3. Consult with the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic <br />Preservation ("DAHP") and affected Native American tribes when developing local <br />policies and regulations for identifying, protecting, and preserving cultural, <br />archaeological, and historic resources <br />4. Where appropriate, restore unique resources that have cultural, archaeological, <br />historic, educational, or scientific value or significance to further enhance the value <br />of the shorelines. <br />5. Where appropriate, provide access to cultural, archaeological, and historic resources <br />in a manner that is culturally sensitive and does not degrade the resource or impact <br />the quality of the environment. <br />Chapter 3 <br />March 7, 2016 <br />37
