CenterF use Broadband Feasibility Report
company has already built fiber to reach to most of the neighborhoods where there is a concentration of
businesses and the company says it's willing to discuss bringing fiber to any business in the city.
Consolidated says that it has done a lot of upgrades to shore up DSL and has eliminated problems that
used to lead to major outages under FairPoint. The company says there is no immediate plans to build
fiber to residential neighborhoods, although local people are hopeful that this might someday happen
since there is fiber being built in other Consolidated markets. The company will sell a business-class
fiber connection to residents today, but that usually means playing a hefty connection fee along with
higher monthly rates.
Consolidated is not willing to share fiber maps for both competitive and security reasons. The company
has built a significant amount of fiber in the last two years to reach business districts. The following map
is from FCC records that shows that the company offers broadband of at least 25/3 Mbps across the city.
This map is misleading—we only found one customer on DSL that achieved a speed of 25 Mbps and we
expect there are few customers in the city with speeds that fast.
i
,11..441r,"u ri
-\ i lage:-. _.,
4
A,..
,,,,,,,, -41:
--L ___
, ,
- ..
f
, _
.,
____ _. .
1
-aftr.C.tv,Z - rnnw.rw
y
• •[OM IhlgulN
CENTERFUSE glIPAC
Consolidated u. ....t-.
'Generated from FCG-177 Data' .VOIMw.
NoaNet
Page 64
