The existing paint system has
failed throughout much of the truss's bottom chord, floorbeams, stringers and bearings (-y20% of
BMS paint element is in Condition State 3). There is pack rust at multiple bottom chord panel
points which would also be repaired during the paint project. The asphalt plug joints at the ends
of the truss and the poured rubber joints at the floorbeams have failed which are contributing to
the paint failure.
Anticipated repairs to the structure include: removal and replacement of paint system, repair
and/or replacement of deteriorated or damage steel truss members, replacement of expansion
joints at the ends of the bridge, replacement of sealant at existing concrete panel joints, and
spall repairs at existing concrete piers.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The goals of this project are as follows:
• Perform fracture critical field inspection of the bridge to document extent and types
deterioration/damage
• Obtain necessary environmental permit approvals for construction
• Perform engineering analyses and design necessary to develop Plans, Specifications
and Cost Estimate necessary for construction to remediate deficiencies described
above.
• Perform construction support and inspection services
ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE
Below is an estimated design schedule for the tasks identified in this scope of work:
• Notice to Proceed (NTP): TBD
• Field Inspection: June 2021
• 30% Design Submittal: 7 weeks from NTP
• 75% Design Submittal: 16 weeks from NTP
• 100% Design Submittal: 20 weeks from NTP
• Bid Documents: 33 weeks from NTP
Below is an estimated environmental permitting schedule for the permitting tasks identified in
this scope of work:
• Draft APE Letter: 2 weeks after NTP
• Cultural Resources Assessment: 4 weeks after receipt of 30% design
