Technology Policy 12 -GIS <br />12.GIS <br />12.1 Summary <br />IT serves as the GIS data steward.The department responsible for collecting and <br />maintaining the data is the owner of the data. <br />12.2 References <br />1.KGIT User Wiki -GIS Data Collection and Creation <br />12.3 Definitions <br />12.3.1 GIS <br />Geographic Information System (GIS)is a computer application used to store,view,and <br />analyze geographic information. <br />12.4 Policy <br />12.4.1 County GIS Data <br />12.4.1.1 Ownership <br />Ownership,for the purpose of this policy,is intended to prevent orphaned data,not to <br />control access.Many departments maintain data within the eeëntyCounty's GIS.The <br />department responsible for collecting and maintaining the data is the owner of the data; <br />however,arrangements may be made between departments for one department to maintain <br />another department's data. <br />12.4.1.2 Stewardship <br />The_lT GIS Coordinator serves as the County's GIS data steward.IT GIS employees creates <br />and maintains the systems and tools used to store,view,and analyze GIS data-The-IT-G‡S <br />arni Geordinater-will add all new data layers that meet this policy's requirements to the <br />seantyCounty's enterprise GIS database. <br />12.4.1.3 GIS data criteria <br />Data added to the eeuntyCounty's GIS will meet the following criteria: <br />1.Use State Plain Washington South coordinate system <br />2.Use North American Datum 1983 (NAD83) <br />3.Display units in survey feet <br />4.DHIEO data owner,in coordination with the GIS Coordinator,will develop accuracy <br />standards to which their data will adhere. <br />12.4.1.4 Metadata requirements <br />55
