FLOOD HAZARD MAPS <br />LIVING IN KITTITAS COUNTY'S FLOODPLAINS <br />FEMA has updated Kittitas County's <br />flood hazards maps. These new <br />maps will be effective on September <br />24, 2021. <br />The Federal Emergency Management Agency <br />(FEMA) coordinates disaster response. <br />The ational Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) <br />provides flood insurance to property owners in <br />flood -prone areas. <br />Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) are maps <br />created by FEMA and used by the NFIP for flood- <br />plain management, mitigation, and insurance pur- <br />poses and by counties and cities for permitting. <br />Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) show <br />where flooding has a one percent chance of hap- <br />pening in any given year <br />A FIRM will generally show: <br />• a community's base flood elevations <br />• flood zones <br />• floodplain boundaries <br />• Floodway boundaries <br />Base Flood Elevations (BFE, are the low- <br />est height that floodwaters can be expected <br />to reach during a major flood. <br />Kittitas County <br />- Flood Control Zone District <br />411 N Ruby St, Suite 1 If you have questions about how map revisions <br />Ellensburg, WA 98926 will affect you, call 509-962-7523. <br />
