Reported the Law Enforcement Torch run for the Special Olympics will not take place this year; however, the department is hoping to have a virtual torch run wearing T-shirts made for this special event. The video wili be sent to the Special Olympics.. Mayor McGowan, on behalf of the Chief Bland, reported there is no bock-up generator at the Police Department; staffis looking into purchasing a propane powered generator, which could be converted to natural gas when it become,s available. The purchase price will be brought before council al afuture meeting. Fire Chief - Ed Mills:o Thanked the citizens, council and city for supporting and passing the levy, which will help to continue funding at the Fire Department.. Reported there were 23 calls in April, including 2 fires - I vehicle and I contained legal burn.r Reported it has been fairly quiet at Fire Department. Eva Tyler wrote regarding her concerns about the unfinished shelter by the Coal Mines Trail Parking area, and the money that was ieft by the Estate of Howard Carlin for improvements at the Trailhead. Ms. Tyier commented she would like io see the City complete the project as soon as possible, within the limits of the COVID-l9 rules. Mayor McGowan reported Mr. Carlin left $10,000 to the Coal Mine Trail, which the City of Cle Elum decided to use for amenities to the structure, including a fountain ($4,490), the water meter service for the fountain ($143), and a large stone caim. Additional costs include engineering costs for the pole tg2,79l) for the cairn, the cost of the pole placement for the cairn ($324) and cement ($200) for a total of $8,860. Rocks will be placed on the cairn when the structure is completed. The Coai Mine Trail also received a Lodging Tax Grant in the amount of $ 17,000, which wilt be used for materials. Mayor McGowan noted the completion of the structure is a volunteer project. Covid-l9 rules will prevent work on the project until Phase 2 comes to the County, at which time, the volunteers are ready to start working. Mayor McGowan will send this information to Ms. Tyler. County Lodging Tax Grant Application: Lucy Temple reported the City has an opporfunity to apply for a Kittitas County Tourism-Related Small-Scale Municipality-Owned Capital Project & Operations Grant; the application is due on 06/181202A, with about $100,000 to distribute among applicants. The application must be tied to an existing funded project. Component #1 is for ffail counters for data collection; I long-term at the Coal Mines Trail and I long-term at the Dog Park; 3 portable trail counters for use at other parks or trails, seasonal or holiday event attendance, sidewalk use and movementwithin the downlown. These will be used to assess trail or park use for future planning of maintenance & operations. Component #2 is for park amenities, including the Disc Golf Course signs, logo and tourism brochures to improve park visitation and provide additional ways for the comrnunity to get out and get healthy; and to plan future events and tournaments. The total grant request is for $3,200; terms of the grant require a 5070 match, which is already secured. The trail counters are matched by the Dog Park City Lodging Tax and the Disc Golf Course signs are matched by the Hanson Ponds Park upgrades J
