From your perspective, what are the gaps in available services for the
homeless population in Kittitas County? Housing (extended emergency, transitional, permanent affordable) for single adults, men and women, clean and sober /half-way housing) dominated the responses to this question. We need more of all of these in this county.
IX. From your perspective, what should the 2011 funding priorities be for the
Homelessness and Affordable Housing Committee?
Below are the responses from the respondents:
Continued funding for HEARTH and REITH type grants, and for Polaris Project and possible expansion to include 20% Emergency Housing Shelter;
Creation of emergency shelter – especially for single males and Cold Weather Shelter;
Continued funding for 24/7 Emergency Housing Hotline – possibly renegotiate the afterhours fees;
Expand Senior Rent Assistance to include 50 and older and tighten eligibility for whole program.
Focus on more transitional and low income housing in the county.
Provide emergency housing for homeless; provide low income housing for those not working, on unemployment, and the working poor;
To bring all services/contracts and monies under one umbrella and use the committee as the disbursement mechanism for ALL housing funds coming into Kittitas County based on set criteria with a formulary utilizing agency expertise and proven track record. Not just Homeless and Affordable Housing monies, but Commerce monies, Block grant monies and special program dollars such as Tax Credits, etc. The only exception to this proposal would be earmarked housing funds such as HUD monies for Subsidized Housing through Housing Authority of Kittitas County and section 8 dollars currently administered by Yakima Housing Authority.
Continue to support and build upon existing programs as well as work with outreach, education with landlords.
Families and children, local resident homeless population (not those coming out of detention
Affordable housing for working poor
