Our
experience during this past Spring and Summer with COVID restrictions has a
brought an understanding that if we don't provide a \ €y to education and
encourage sterilardship of our natural resources, they could be at risk for
generations to enjoy. These resources are incredibly important in many ways,
including attracting tourists and visitors to our area.
The Cle Elum Dor,ta-rtonn Association is working with Todd Elsruorth, Director of
Recreation Northwest to develop a blueprint wfrich will highlight the dou'ntor,m and
surrounding recreational areas, educational opportunities and busirresses in a way
that can be scalable in years to come. For the first year, our primary focus is to
identify local recreational vendors; Cle Elum and counly-wide, and strategically
plan and market the Expo to meei participation goals. We will utilize open spaces,
lhe local parks. store fronts, streets and more to provide an interactive and fun
event ihe whole family could participate in and enjoy.
ln 2020, consultants from Arnett Muldrow conducted a community market analysis
that determined a high demand of visitors in downtora,n CIe Elum. By using the
previous calculations and using the information provided by the STAR report
specifically for the county. it indrcaies an estimated 7% increase of weekly visitors
in 2021 compared to 2019. These visitors' activities may include festivals and
events, retail shopping, dining, outdoor recreation, and overnight stays.
