Response 2.2*
Application Questions: Parl 2
Describe the prior success of your evenVactivitlacility in attraclion tourists.
With thousands of birders visiting the Canyon annually, the Yakima River Canyon
Bird Fest is sure io be a very i,r,ell attended event.
KEEN anticipates betrircen 500 attendees in our 3rd year. Based on 20'lB
attendance, r.re estimate that B0% of event attendees uill be considered tourists
(-400 people) and that 30% of them will be from another state or out of Counky
(-120 people).
The 2019 event uiras cancelled due to a conflict with another birding event and the
2020 event was cancelled due to covid.
Pre-registration will be required for events, lectures, and field trips. We can
track attendee information this $ay through our online ticket sales.
ln addition, Yakima River Canyon Bird Fest headquarters will be located at Helen
McCabe Park and everyone attending the event will be required to check in,
receive their event materials, and in this \,ay, u€ will be able to track attendees'
destinations and overnight stay statistics.
We will conditct an in-person survey in 2A21 in order io increase survey
responses and get direct overnight stay data. We have found that our online
surveys are not raiell-responded to (vre believe that this is due to the older age of
our event attendees).
We are constantly refining our advertising methods. Our partnership with Living
Bird Magalne will begin earlier, and add print to iheir digital presence. They will,
at the conclusion of ihe publishing/financial cycle, provide the data wlrich will
demonstrate their effectiveness.
Birders plan their travel calendars to engage in as many birding opportunities as
they can, and this festival in May is the best time to see colorful, diverse and rare
bird species in the Canyon.
2500 character lirit
3llmpact
