Hazard Mitigation Plan <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Issue press release <br />LEAD STAFF: <br />Arden Thomas <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Issue a press release informing citizens about our progress implementing the 2019 <br />Kittitas County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. <br />BRIEFING SUMMARY: <br />• In 2019, Kittitas County adopted the 2019 Kittitas County Multi -Jurisdictional <br />Hazard Mitigation Plan (Resolution No. 2019-140). <br />• Since Kittitas County participates in the Community Rating System, we are <br />required to have an up-to-date Hazard Mitigation Plan and annually report on our <br />progress implementing the plan. <br />• In 2020, Public Works staff identified progress advancing 12 out of the 16 <br />County -Wide initiatives and 25 out of 34 Kittitas County initiatives. <br />• In additional to Departmental Work Programs, the Flood Control Zone District <br />Capital Program and efforts by partner organizations and initiatives helps <br />advanced the Hazard Mitigation Plan. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In 2019, Kittitas County adopted the 2019 Kittitas County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard <br />Mitigation Plan (Resolution No. 2019-140). Communities that would like to participate in <br />the Community Rating System (CRS) or apply to for hazard mitigation grants are <br />required to have an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. <br />The Community Rating System (CRS), a program offered by the National Flood <br />Insurance Program which rewards communities that implement certain activities to <br />reduce the impacts of flooding with lower flood insurance rates. <br />CRS communities are also required to report annually on their progress implementing the <br />Hazard Mitigation Plan, Public Works staff reviewed the County -Wide Mitigation <br />Initiatives and the Unincorporated Kittitas County Mitigation Initiatives and assembled <br />the attached progress report. <br />Page I of 4 <br />PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />
