KITTITAS COUNTY CDS STUDY SESSION MINUTES BOCC CONFERENCE ROOM, WEBEX Regular Meeting MONDAY 1:30 PM September 14, 2020 Board members present: Chairman Brett Wachsmith, Vice -Chairman Cory Wright, and Laura Osiadacz Others: Dan Carlson, Jessica Miller, Toni Berkshire, Community Development Services; Pat Nicholson, Fire Marshal; Neil Caulkins, Prosecuting Attorney; Sherriff Clay Myers, Sherriff's Office; Mark Cook, Candie Leader, Public Works; Patti Johnson, Solid Waste; Benjamin West, Airport; and Six (6) Members of the Public. At 1:31 pm Chairman Brett Wachsmith opened the Community Development Services Study Session. Request for Board Direction Regarding Code Amendments Banning Target Practice During Burn Bans Director Carlson stated that a concerned citizen had approached Commissioner Osiadacz regarding concerns about shooting during a burn ban. Fire Marshal Nicholson stated that he does receive calls regarding concerns about this and has investigated fires that have been cause by shooting whether it be on public or private land. He stated he does not have authority at this time to enforce a ban on private property. Sheriff Myers stated he would like to hear opinions of the public on this topic. A member of the public stated they are the person that initially called the Fire Marshal regarding the concern. They stated this is usually not a concern, but with the current dry conditions it seems an unnecessary hazard. Discussion occurred. Staff was directed to bring this to the BoCC as an agenda item.
