Huntzinger Road had several segments of road that scored high on the risk-based prioritization.
Although there is no significant accident data to reflect the hazards, the road characteristics of
the road show several areas of curves; both vertical and horizontal, steep embankments and no
shoulder which are the largest contributing factors to run -off-road accidents. Guardrail, signing
and delineation improvements to this corridor are cost -prohibitive so the county has prioritized
the phases in order of risk-based scoring into manageable sized projects for design and contract
letting
a. Phase 1 - MP 5.14 to MP 6.99
b. Phase 2 - MP 2.70 to MP 4.88
c. Phase 3- IMP 6.99toMP10.74
Project is a priority for Kittitas County because it prevents most common type of accident (run-
off -road) and scored high on risk-based prioritization, it is a lower priority than other projects
because we are already addressing the first roadway segment in a project to be constructed in
2017.
6. Vantage Highway Safety Improvements
This project provides corridor -wide improvements for the entire length of Vantage Highway.
This is a high -ADT corridor with an overall roadway that is in good condition with appropriate
countermeasures in place. However, this project would provide spot -improvements to areas
within the corridor that are missing or have outdated countermeasures. While several segments
of Vantage Highway scored high in risk-based prioritization, the evaluation of the accident types
did not. Yet, Kittitas County recognizes that improvements to this corridor will provide benefit to
a great number of travelers, and any improvements that could reduce potential future crashes
are beneficial. This is a lower priority than other projects because of existing countermeasures
already in place.
7. Kittitas Hwy Intersection Improvements
The lower priority level for this project is because Kittitas Hwy has undergone recent
improvements yet is still reflecting data for intersection related accidents. The county is taking
the opportunity to evaluate the countermeasures recently installed for performance success.
This will allow for identification of additional countermeasures that may need to be
implemented.
8. No. 6 Rd Intersection Improvements
The combination of accident history at No. 6 Rd and Vantage Hwy along with a site visit brought
this segment into the list of projects. Its priority is lower due to the magnitude of the previous
11
