Guardrail installations shall conform to the appropriate plan or plans from the latest edition of WSDOT <br />Standard Plans. All new guardrail installations shall use Type 31. <br />Breaks or openings on existing guardrail systems shall be evaluated and justified to the County Engineer's <br />satisfaction based upon suitable engineering studies considering traffic safety and public safety concerns. <br />12.04.08.100 Snow Storage. <br />Roadway design shall accommodate snow removal and storage using conventional snowplowing methods <br />and without the need for graders and other specialized equipment. <br />Snow storage design shall be tailored to accommodate the snowfall averages of the project location. <br />Roadway shoulders shall have adequate area to accommodate snow removal during winter months, <br />especially in the vicinity of roadway cut locations. <br />Dead end roadways and driveway design shall include a designated area for snow storage indicated on the <br />plans and sized to accommodate the average snowfall in the project area. <br />12.04.08.110 Gates. <br />Developments proposing gated access on private roads shall be designed so as not to impede access by <br />emergency vehicles including under snow conditions. Design, installation and maintenance of gates are <br />subject to approval and permit by the Kittitas County fire marshal. All gated access shall comply with but <br />may not be limited to the following requirements: <br />A. Gates are not allowed on county roadways. <br />B. A building permit issued by the county is required when gates are installed over private driveways, <br />roads, or shared access facilities. In order for the county to issue the building permit, the following <br />requirements must be met: <br />1. Locked gates shall have rapid entry capabilities compatible with the local fire district <br />requirements per the International Eire Code. <br />2. All electrically activated gates shall have default capabilities to the unlocked position; <br />3. Gate posts, keypads and other gate appurtenances shall not obstruct or restrict ingress or <br />egress of emergency vehicles. <br />4. The minimum clear width of agate shall be 20 feet. <br />5. Gate posts, keypads, and other gate appurtenances shall not be located within the 20 -foot <br />wide clear width area. <br />6.
