Roslyn and South Cie Elum. These facts illustrate the importance of economic development
within the upper county and providing for affordable commercial — industrial zones for new
businesses to locate into. We are hopeful that with careful planning on a short and long-term
basis with the City and County, existing businesses will have areas to expand into and new
business will see the value of relocation.
On our part, we do not view this proposed land swap as giving property away; rather as putting
the building blocks in place for lands north of Crystal Creek to be put into profitable production.
With that said, it is a blessing that we have the opportunity and, are in the position, to give back
to the community that has been our home for 50 plus years. It is also a blessing that the
community would be the recipient of such a gift.
So, what can we do? Currently I know that public works is anxious to break ground in efforts to
move their shop and yard. We do not wish to stop progress but also would like to see
transparent and open discussions within the local community regarding how these lands will be
put to future use. Highway 903 is transitioning from a vacant transportation corridor into main
street between the Cities of Cle Elum and Roslyn. It is important that this valuable resource be
carefully planned and considered for future uses which we question will be best served with
County Industrial use.
We ask that the BOCC reconsidered its position regarding this land swap and open discussion
for how current County lands along 903 are to be used into the future. We also think it prudent
for the County to allow for public input on how the community sees the build out of the 903
corridor.
I look forward to your response and can be available to meet with you or county representatives
after my return in early March.
Sincerely,
eiaYi.{$r lig•
Douglas Weis
