Kitchen Cleaning and Maintenance
Kitchens have a direct impact on guest morale, so it is essential that they be kept clean and well
maintained. Dirty kitchens often contribute to poor morale and a low level of respect for the company.
Our kitchens are equipped with many or all of the following items: microwaves, sinks, refrigerators,
ranges, ice makers, vending machines, and coffee makers. The areas around these appliances and
machines are often the messiest part of the room. You can expect to see food and liquid spills, discarded
wrappers, cups, straws, napkins, etc. Because our kitchens are not used on a daily basis, deep cleaning is
required immediately after an event and immediately preceding an event.
In addition to being unsightly, the messy areas of a kitchen can present a safety hazard. Wet floors are
slip hazards, and dirty countertops and food -handling surfaces can be breeding grounds for bacteria,
mold, and insects.
Kitchen Cleaning Protocol:
1. Wear Gloves at all times
2. Sweep floor, under appliances & shelves, corners
3. Check all appliances for leftovers & throw away
4. Any leftover items (equipment) gather and turn into "lost and found" in office
5. Wipe inside all appliances: Refrigerator, microwave, stove (top/burners & drip trays), oven
6. Wipe outside surfaces of all appliances, front, top, sides, handles
7. Clean sink— remove all food bits, scour with ajax, polish faucet & handles
8. Wipe walls around sink, stove, and doorways (general cleaner)
9. Check Supplies & Refill:
• Paper Towels - Hand Soap
10. Spray & Wipe All Fixtures
• Soap Holders —Paper Towel Holders
11. Wipe all counters —scrub if necessary — use bleach water. Attend to edges, lips, corners
12. Empty Trash - Put In New Bag
13. Mop Floors
14. Tidy Cleaning supply closet— Check Supply Inventory, note any products in short supply
15. Check light fixtures for burned out bulbs and bugs
16. Report and Document Any Needs or Damage
Bathroom Cleaning and Maintenance
A clean bathroom requires wiping surfaces daily and deep cleaning weekly in order to prevent illness
and infections affecting aging and/or unhealthy individuals. An unclean bathroom can affect:
1. Breathing — inhaling mold and dust can cause health concerns for those who may already suffer
from breathing problems such as COPD, asthma, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, or other
conditions.
Kittitas Valley Event Center Cleaning Action Plan 2017 5 1 P a g e
