KITTITAS COUNTY
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
STUDY SESSION STAFF REPORT
AGENDA DATE: July 24th, 2017
ACTION REQUESTED: Approve a Notice of Call for Seated Bids for the University
Way Bridge Project
BACKGROUND: The University Way Bridge over the Burlington Northern
Santa Fe railroad tracks is need of repair. Damage to the
substructure has been identified on the girders and the cross
beams.
Additionally, settlement at both bridge approaches have been
identified resulting in the design and proposed construction of
new approach slabs.
Resolution 2017-058 funding the shortfall of $445,000 for the
construction of the Dolarway Roundabout, required the
County to move forward with the required repairs.
The Engineers estimate for the proposed project is
approximately $215,000.
This project will repair the damaged substructure and install
approach slabs. The contract will require early cure high
strength concrete to expedite construction. A two week
closure will be required to accommodate the construction as
traffic is not manageable over the bridge due to conflicts with
width and concrete cure efforts.
A full closure is anticipated to be in effect the evening of
September 18`x' through October 2"d 2017. These closure
dates have been communicated and agreed upon with Central
Washington University.
Bids are scheduled to be opened on August 9th; 2017 at 10:00
a.m. in the Public Works Department.
INTERACTION: Public Works
RECOMMENDATION: Move to approve Notice of Call for Sealed Bids for the
University Way Project,
HANDLING: Return one (1) copy to Public Works
ATTACHMENTS: Notice of Call for Bids
LEAD STAFF: Lucas Huck, County Engineer
