Mel's Bowl & Family Fun Center
June 1, 2017
Kittitas County Commissioners,
The advisory committee involved with Mel's Bowl continues with the mission to establish a center that
provides recreational, creative and educational opportunities for our community population and others
outside of Kittitas County. Our goal is to provide an outlet for grandparents, grandkids, couples, families
and individuals to explore their inner child in our facility. Mel's Bowl will include six lanes of bowling,
nine very artistic/creative holes of mini golf, a performance area, coin operated games and a restaurant.
The performance area could be utilized for rehearsal space, smaller venues and movies to name a few.
We would also work on providing affordable performance area for other non-profit organizations.
Interest for this project has not diminished as we continually hear positive remarks/support from
residents including University students. For example, the Ellensburg High School Director of Athletics
has endorsed having a local bowling facility to allow for the expansion of their bowling program... (a
letter of support from Athletic Director Cole Kanyer is attached).
Talking with Jill Scheffer, Director of Kittitas Valley Event Center, we understand the KVEC may have a
need for additional flexible event space... which we intend to integrate as part of our overall plan. We
also understand that a contractual agreement or OMM ... (Operations, Maintenance & Management)...
might be the vehicle for this partnership. Part of this agreement would include that the bowling alley
elements not utilized by Mel's Bowl would become surplus and sold per that mechanism with proceeds
to KVEC. Other agreements will be worked out regarding KVEC usage.
Since our last meeting with the county our team has selected a Board of Directors including the
following officers:
Michael Burtness President
Curtis Bull Vice President
Jennifer Hoyt Secretary
Chris Trujillo Treasurer
The Bio's for the officers are included. The board members will be instrumental in the decision making
process and are volunteers from throughout the community. The board members currently are: Justin
Beckman, Marc Brown, Bruce Dickinson, Mollie Edson, Mia Marindino, Monica Miller, Angela Martin,
Natalia Parker, Marilee Thompkins and Ralla Vickers. If necessary they too will provide Bio's.
We have also revised our financials/business plan, which is detailed on following pages. With the
support of KVEC, community partnerships and a researched business plan we feel this will be a valuable
use of the property. To achieve our 501(c)3 non-profit status we will coordinate with Laughing Horse
Arts Foundation and with their approval will continue under the umbrella of LHAF. We are excited
about the possibilities of utilizing this abandoned bowling alley for family fun and with hard work and
ingenuity we feel it will be possible. We hope for your support in this endeavor.
www.melsbowl.org
