KITTITAS COUNTY <br />DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA SESSION DATE: October 24, 2016 <br />ACTION REQUESTED: Approve the Resolution to Award the <br />Westside Road Traffic Safety Improvements <br />Project. <br />BACKGROUND: The Department of Public Works solicited bids <br />for the Westside Road Traffic Safety contract in <br />accordance with RCW 36.77.020 Contract <br />Procedures. Sealed Bids were opened on <br />October 17, 2016 at 10am. <br />Three (3) bids were received for the prescribed <br />work. The lowest responsive bid was Petersen <br />Brothers, Inc., in the amount of $374,642.88 <br />approximately 1.5% over the Engineer's <br />Estimate of $368,499.60. <br />This contract provides for safety improvements <br />of Westside Road, which may include <br />delineators, signage, bridge -rail retrofit and <br />guardrail. <br />The total HSIP funds allocated for construction <br />improvements on Westside Road and <br />Huntzinger Road was $511,402.00. Following <br />the completion of this project $136,760.00 will <br />remain for Huntzinger improvements. <br />Preliminary design suggests that guardrail <br />deployment along the river side of Huntzinger <br />will cost approximately $300,000.00 and <br />$250,000.00 to deploy guardrail along the hill <br />side. <br />Future investments from Grant County PUD <br />along the Huntzinger corridor has motivated <br />Public Works to be proactive and improve <br />
