Dept. of Public Works
Page 3
OTHER BUSINESS: Mark stated that the County Engineer, Doug D'Hondt, has
submitted his letter of resignation. This leaves the need to
fill the County Engineer position. Mark suggested that in
the interim he be acting County Engineer until a suitable
candidate can be found. Discussion on the interview panel
and process was had.
Mark gave an update on the Teanaway culvert
replacement project (FLAP). Discussion needs to be had
about approaching Commerce about matching funds from
the retained earnings and apply them to the match. Then
reserves wouldn't have to be used. Commissioner Jewell
stated that he was doubtful that is a possibility since the
contract has not been fulfilled on our end. Maris stated he
will prepare the contract documents and have a complete
package for Board signature in early February.
Commissioner Jewell asked what the contract says about
road improvements. Mark replied that his understanding
was it can be used. Commissioner Jewell suggested
looking at the contract further to see if it fits within the
parameters of the agreement. Discussion will still need to
be had regarding using those funds for a match.
Mark reported that after discussion on the pit sites, signage
and closures, staff received a call from a citizen asking
when the Elk Heights Pit will be open. Mark stated that
citizens do camp back in the pit area which creates a
health concern. Commissioner Berndt will speak with the
snowmobile club and Howard Briggs.
Commissioner Berndt has been receiving calls regarding
Sparks Road and the closures of 1-90 causing the roadway
to be used as a parking lot. The concern is emergency
response being blocked due to the parking along and in
the roadway. The road was signed with No Parking signs
and they are being ignored.
Mark R. Cook
Director of Public Works
411 N. Ruby, Ste. #1
Ellensburg, WA 98926
TEL (509) 962-7523
FAX (509) 962-7663
