<br />07/19/2016 MINUTES 5 <br /> <br /> <br />Kelly Conner reviewed an article from April 26, 2016 in the Daily <br />Record. She cautioned the County of purchasing the Shady Acres property <br />and said if the Commissioners were found guilty of misappropriation of <br />funds they would be personally held responsible. <br /> <br />Mark Auslander stated the Ellensburg City Council instructed their Mayor <br />to send a letter to the County Commissioners in favor the Homeless & <br />Affordable Housing’s recommendation and to seek an alternate purchaser <br />for Shady Acres. He indicated the Housing Authority has the 1.4 million <br />dollars to purchase the property, but they would need help from other <br />agencies, both public and private sectors. <br /> <br />Rodrigo De La Rosa, representing residents of Shady Acres expressed his <br />opposition over the County’s purchase of the property. He reviewed <br />various hardships to families that would be created if the purchase goes <br />through. He indicated options have been presented to the County <br />including the Housing Authority purchasing the property. He said he <br />would continue to defend Shady Acres because that is their home. <br /> <br />Chairman O’Brien explained how an environmental assessment had been <br />completed of the property and no contaminations were found. There had <br />also been an appraisal done of the property. He said the Barton’s have <br />made it clear that they want to sell their property to the County. He <br />reviewed the history and process of how the Master Plan had been updated <br />with public involvement. <br /> <br />Commissioner Osiadacz explained she is open to talking with any <br />residents of Shady Acres and that public comments are very important to <br />her and how she thinks about all of them. She would like to know what <br />the residents feel and what she could do to help address their concerns. <br />She clarified a statement she made at a previous meeting and apologized <br />for anyone who may have taken offense, as the information being put out <br />to the public was not accurate.
