from the City for roundabout construction and abandon our request for annexing Currier
Creek Estates. The $228,765 owed to the County will significantly retire the cost of the
signal at University and Reecer. The ongoing moving target for improvements costs to
University Way required by the City suggests that PW is ill prepared to continue with the
requested annexation of University Way and Currier Creek Estates.
The inability of the County to secure the requested annexation from the City of
Ellensburg suggests larger dysfunction between the two organizations. If the Board of
County Commissioners elects to cancel its annexation request, PW recommends
revisiting all proposed projects in Ellensburg UGA for possible investment. This will
potentially remove Bender Road and Sanders Road from the County's six year
transportation pian. It might also be time to revisit the time money and effort the County
spends annually chip sealing City streets.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Approximately $616,881 has been spent improving University Way. Another $500,000
is likely required completing the mandatory construction of the traffic signal at
University/Reecer.
ATTACHMENTS:
Exhibit 1: Roundabout Agreement
PUBLIC WORKS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
