Candie Leader
From: Michelle Schock <ml.schock@yahoo.com>
Sent: Tuesday, February 4, 2020 10:35 AM
To: Candie Leader
Subject: Cove/Hanson Intersection
Good morning Candie,
My husband called the public works office yesterday to voice his concerns regarding the speed and some other conditions
on Cove Rd. and was asked to send an email over to you.
I'm sure you're aware of the tragic accident that took place on Sunday (2/2)shortly after 3 pm. I live at 5261 Cove Rd. and
would like to make you and the rest of the county road crew aware of the hazards at the intersection of Cove and Hanson
road.
The speed limit on Cove road is certainly a concern given the fact that there is no stop signs between Manastash and
Robinson Canyon so it's incredibly easy for drivers to speed down that stretch. Now I understand that changing the speed
limit won't guarantee a change in human actions, but there's more to it than just the speed limit. I've witnessed several
"almost" accidents at that intersection that have 2 contributing factors; the speed of which the drivers on Cove rd. are
going and the brush/trees to the north of Hanson road that are on both sides of Cove at that intersection. The trees and
brush make it incredibly difficult to see traffic travelling south on Cove road without creeping out into the intersection to a
point that most would consider dangerous. The increased traffic in the area due to our ever-growing county is increasing
the dangers at this intersection.
There is a large number of families with younger children on this stretch of Cove. It is a large concern when they asked to
play outside or a family wants to go for a walk because of the amount of traffic and speed at which it is travelling.
The outcome I am hoping for would be to have the trees and brush trimmed to a point that makes a good line of visibility,
blinking stop signs on Hanson, and a reduced speed limit of 35 MPH.
I appreciate your time and attention to this matter. If you have any questions, comments, or recommendations of how to
proceed further; please contact me any time.
Thank you,
Michelle Schock
(509) 929-4488
ML.SCHOCK@YAHOO.COM
