• Piaget Sound overflow. Population in the greater Seattle area has been growing <br />by more than 1,000 people a week since 2010. Ellensburg is now feeling the <br />pressure of population "spill-over," a combination of increased commuters from <br />Ellensburg to Seattle jobs, and permanent residents, seeking relief in Ellensburg <br />from the pressures of crowded highways and communities. The pressure is <br />evident in a very tight housing market. Ellensburg should expect spill-over in <br />businesses choosing to relocate. This may be an opportunity or threat, <br />depending on the nature of the business. Ellensburg should act now to prioritize <br />Industry clusters most compatible with the future we envision for ourselves. <br />Recommendation <br />As a bedroom community to the <br />Leverage community assets and strengths <br />Puget Sound, our focus should <br />to take charge of our future rather than <br />be self-directed rather than <br />allow the community to develop to meet <br />allowing our position to be <br />Puget Sound's needs. <br />extemally dictated. Over 25% of <br />Ellensburg residents are daily , <br />commuters to the west side. <br />ELLENSBURG'S ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES <br />Looking at the aforementioned recommendations creates a list of opportunities for <br />EBDA to pursue. <br />ECONOMIC STRENGTHS <br />Tp.:fc • . <br />Raq men <br />Innovation <br />Fully understand and utilize the capabilities of a PDA. <br />Seek out Public- Private partnerships (P3) W <br />increase opportunities for livable wage job creation. <br />Target individuals who will bring a positive impact to <br />our community and not just business sectors. <br />Educate EBDA, City Council about change and <br />'disruptors' happening in the economic development <br />pn*ssion Ce.o. H 2 . <br />Well educated <br />Customize degree/certification programs to meet <br />workforce <br />nWftistlnq business needs. <br />Build a path for graduates to follow and stay in <br />Ellensburg. <br />Identify opportunities to connect intellectua[ power <br />of faculty and students to economic development in <br />Ellensburg. <br />
