08/31/2026 MINUTES 1 COMMISSIONERS' MINUTES KITTITAS COUNTY, WASHINGTON AUDITORIUM SPECIAL MEETING MONDAY 10:00 A.M. AUGUST 31, 2026 Board members present: Chairman Brett Wachsmith & Vice-Chairman Commissioner Laura Osiadacz. Others: Julie Kjorsvik, Clerk of the Board and approximately 45 members of the public. SPECIAL MEETING DISTRICT #1 APPOINTMENT COMMISSIONERS At 10:00 a.m. Chairman Wachsmith called the Special Meeting to order to consider the Republican Party’s recommendation of candidates for the Kittitas County Commissioner District #1 and appointment to the position. Chairman Wachsmith said the Board received a letter from the Kittitas County Republican Party, with a list of candidates in order based up on their appointed Central Committee representatives: 1. Jeff Leichleiter 2. Josh Cox and 3. Jerry Lael. He asked if the candidates would like to take 3-5 minutes to speak and provide information on their interest in being appointed to the position. Jerry Lael, Josh Cox, and Jeff Leichleiter, each provided information including their background, community involvement, and interest in serving Kittitas County residents. At 10:10 a.m. Chairman Wachsmith announced the Board would recess into Executive Session, for 5 minutes, in the Commissioners Conference Room, to consider under RCW 42.30.110 (g), to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment or to review the performance of a public employee. However, subject to RCW 42.30.140(4), discussion by a governing body of salaries, wages, and other conditions of employment to be generally applied within the agency shall occur in a meeting open to the public, and when a governing body elects to take final action hiring, setting the salary of an individual employee or class of employees, or discharging or disciplining an employee, that action shall be taken in a meeting open to the public. Action was anticipated. At 10:15 a.m. the Board reconvened out of Executive Session.
