SHERIFF'S STUDY SESSION MINUTES
COMMISSIONERS' AUDITORIUM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 109 - ELLENSBURG
Regular Meeting
WEDNESDAY 8:00 AM I July 1, 2026
Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright and Commissioner Brett Wachsmith.
Others: Sheriff Myers, Inspector Chris Whitsett, Chief Darren Higashiyama, Jeanne Killgore,
Miko Tempski, Therese Murphy, and Charlie Smith.
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 08:00 a.m.
Citizen Comments (1 Minute time limit)
None.
Workblace Accommodations discussion:
Sheriff Myers notified the board that in the Sheriff's Office there is an empty office area that is
being converted for employees to utilize for interviews, lactation room, and a multi -purpose
office when needed. Chief Higashiyama wanted to inform the board that Cody Cupp is doing a
great job and has expedited the process on this office space.
Old SAR Buildiniz discussion:
Sheriff Myers informed the board that the Sheriff's Office is still paying a yearly fee and that we
notified BNSF years ago that we moved out and vacated the building, but we are still paying, and
the annual increase went up to around $10,000 to $14,000. We need to know what to do and
what the next steps are. Miko mentioned he spoke to Risk Pool regarding the lease, and it was
suggested to write them a letter. Chairman Wright agreed with Miko and gave him direction to
move forward with the letter. Darren confirmed with the Board if Charlie is to still handle this
project and Chairman Wright responded yes.
Executive Session — RCW 42.30.110(1) — (i) To discuss with legal counsel representing the
agency matters relating to agency enforcement actions, or to discuss with legal counsel
representing the agency litigation or potential litigation to which the agency, the governing
body, or a member acting in an official capacity is, or is likely to become, a party, when public
knowledge regarding the discussion is likely to result in an adverse legal or financial
consequence to the agency.
Board entered into executive session at 8:10 a.m. length of anticipated time of 15 minutes. The
Board exited executive session at 8:22 a.m. with no action taken.

Executive Session RCW 42.30.140(4) (b) - That portion of a meeting during which the governing
body is planning or adopting the strategy or position to be taken by the governing body during
the course of any collective bargaining, professional negotiations, or grievance or mediation
proceedings, or reviewing the proposals made in the negotiations or proceedings while in
progress.
Board entered into executive session at 8:23 a.m. length of anticipated time of 10 minutes. The
Board exited executive session at 8:30 a.m. with no action taken.
