KITTITAS COUNTY <br />SHERIFF'S STUDY SESSION MINUTES <br />COMMISSIONERS' AUDITORIUM, 205 WEST 5TH ROOM 109 - ELLENSBURG <br />Regular Meeting <br />WEDNESDAY 8:00 AM I July 1, 2026 <br />Board members present: Chairman Cory Wright and Commissioner Brett Wachsmith. <br />Others: Sheriff Myers, Inspector Chris Whitsett, Chief Darren Higashiyama, Jeanne Killgore, <br />Miko Tempski, Therese Murphy, and Charlie Smith. <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 08:00 a.m. <br />Citizen Comments (1 Minute time limit) <br />None. <br />Workblace Accommodations discussion: <br />Sheriff Myers notified the board that in the Sheriff's Office there is an empty office area that is <br />being converted for employees to utilize for interviews, lactation room, and a multi -purpose <br />office when needed. Chief Higashiyama wanted to inform the board that Cody Cupp is doing a <br />great job and has expedited the process on this office space. <br />Old SAR Buildiniz discussion: <br />Sheriff Myers informed the board that the Sheriff's Office is still paying a yearly fee and that we <br />notified BNSF years ago that we moved out and vacated the building, but we are still paying, and <br />the annual increase went up to around $10,000 to $14,000. We need to know what to do and <br />what the next steps are. Miko mentioned he spoke to Risk Pool regarding the lease, and it was <br />suggested to write them a letter. Chairman Wright agreed with Miko and gave him direction to <br />move forward with the letter. Darren confirmed with the Board if Charlie is to still handle this <br />project and Chairman Wright responded yes. <br />Executive Session — RCW 42.30.110(1) — (i) To discuss with legal counsel representing the <br />agency matters relating to agency enforcement actions, or to discuss with legal counsel <br />representing the agency litigation or potential litigation to which the agency, the governing <br />body, or a member acting in an official capacity is, or is likely to become, a party, when public <br />knowledge regarding the discussion is likely to result in an adverse legal or financial <br />consequence to the agency. <br />Board entered into executive session at 8:10 a.m. length of anticipated time of 15 minutes.
